Spain's Kit Digital program has been distributing digitization vouchers to SMBs and freelancers since 2022. The 2026 call is still open according to official info from Acelera Pyme, with three tiers by company size: 0–3 employees (€2,000 voucher), 3–9 employees (€6,000) and 10–49 employees (€12,000).
The funds come from the NextGenerationEU Recovery Plan. By 2024 the Ministry had already distributed over €3.5 billion and issued more than 425,000 vouchers (Ministry of Economic Affairs). Budget for 2026 is still available, but apply before it runs out.
Useful categories for a service SMB
Not every Kit category is worth the same for every business. For a consultancy, agency, clinic or professional practice, five categories are the ones that really deliver:
- Website and online presence (up to €2,000): useful if you don't have a site, or the one you have is an unmaintained 2016 WordPress. Covers basic development, domain and one year of hosting.
- E-commerce (up to €2,000): only if you sell product or service at online checkout. For B2B services with consultative sales it doesn't apply.
- Customer management / CRM (up to €4,000): useful if you're coming from Excel or from having the pipeline in the salesperson's head. Covers licenses and setup for HubSpot, Zoho, Odoo or similar.
- BI and analytics (up to €4,000): the most under-used category in the program. Covers custom dashboards that on the open market cost €8,000–15,000.
- Cybersecurity (up to €6,000): useful and, in 2026, nearly mandatory. It also requires team training, which raises the business's baseline. Pairs well with "Device management."
Categories that usually disappoint
Two frequent cases of high expectation and low outcome:
- "Social media presence" and "digital marketing": accredited providers charge to meet the voucher minimum, not to build strategy. If you need serious paid media or thoughtful social management, contract directly outside the Kit.
- "Electronic invoicing": Spain's tax agency requires Veri*Factu from 2026 in many cases (Spanish Tax Agency), so the voucher overlaps with a legal obligation. If your invoicing software already covers it, don't spend the voucher here.
The Kit pays for the standard part of the stack. On top of that, custom development the accredited provider can't invoice you for is contracted privately.
How to combine Kit Digital with custom development
The Kit pays for the "standard" part of the stack (basic web, SaaS CRM, template-based dashboards). On top of that, you privately contract the custom development the accredited provider can't legally invoice you for: business-specific automations, custom system-to-system integrations, and internal portals.
A real example: an SMB with 12 employees uses €4,000 of the "Customer management" voucher for HubSpot setup and another €4,000 of the "BI" voucher for dashboards. In parallel, they contract €8,000 separately for custom integrations between HubSpot and their ERP. Out-of-pocket total: €8,000 for €16,000 of received value. That's how to leverage the program without leaving value on the table.
Process gotchas
Four points where the process usually breaks:
- You can only contract with providers accredited as digital transformation agents. You can't use the voucher with any vendor.
- The application goes through red.es' electronic office at sede.red.gob.es with a digital certificate for the company. No certificate, no application.
- The provider bills the voucher directly to the government. You only pay the part not covered. You don't front the subsidized amount.
- Each category comes with 12-month maintenance commitments. Break them and you refund the voucher.
At udae we partner with accredited providers to close the whole process legally and safely: category selection, application drafting, submission through red.es' electronic office and technical execution of the project. Only the non-covered portion is billed, without fronting the subsidized amount.
When NOT to apply
If your pending digitization is 100% custom (a custom CRM, a specific portal), the Kit doesn't cover the development. In that case you lose application time for little gain. If you only need €500 worth of a basic website, it doesn't pay either — the application time exceeds the saving.
The ideal case is an SMB with pending web updates, CRM setup and dashboards. There the voucher covers 40–60% of the total digitization cost and frees capital to invest in custom work where the Kit doesn't reach. At udae we combine both paths depending on what each business needs.
